Research shows there is a growing need for healthcare and socialization for the expanding older population in Michigan. According to a study by the Alzheimer’s Association, twenty-one Michigan counties have a median age of 50 or older – more than any state. This means there will be an increase in the number of cases of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia related conditions. The research also indicates that rural counties rank among the state’s poorest, which makes the challenge of aging even more significant.
